One of the best ways to help keep your EVS team motivated is by celebrating their successes. This can be done on a team or individual level, but can be approached in many different ways. We’ll be going into different ways to help celebrate your EVS service team and let them know that they are appreciated. By utilizing these methods you can help boost morale, improve performance and quality, and improve employee retention, just as a few examples.

Surprise Appreciation

Recognizing individuals or your team in the moment is a great way to show appreciation for your team. This lets them know you genuinely value their work and want them to be successful..

Push for hospital-wide feature

Try to get your team some recognition in more “hospital-wide” publications or messages. If not available yet then try suggesting that! Push for a network or hospital-wide newsletter that can help recognize everyone at the facility. If not then at least checking to see any alternatives to doing this.  Getting further recognition from the entire facility for your team’s victories amplifies the recognition to that next level. You could bring the team up during staff meetings, or mention your team’s victories to higher-ups. Even just going the extra step to try goes a long way in celebrating the team.

Team Appreciation Activities

Everyone loves a celebration! . This  could be a small or large event, any way to show your appreciation. Coordinate large meals for your team with catering, or you could take your highest-achieving members out to lunch one day. Coming together to honor their hard work can help your team bond.

Offer Career Development Support

One of the best things you can do to celebrate your team is to show them that you care for their personal growth. Provide resume or interview guidance as examples to help your team reach their long and short term career goals. This could be through helping to provide higher education/tutoring to any team members interested in that This goes above and beyond in celebrating your team, in not just celebrating current success but future ones as well.

Monthly Recognition

While surprise recognition is nice, having a consistent goal to push for is always a strong motivator. Try implementing monthly certificates for employees that go above and beyond to meet their goals. You could even leverage the team members to help recognize important EVS metrics to use in determining who receives these certificates. Our EVS management system ReadyList pulls together these kinds of metrics, so even if your current system doesn’t allow for the collection of metrics like these the options are out there.

These methods for celebrating your team are just a few of many different ways to show your appreciation. Recognition is a constant point to be made and goes far beyond implementing one way of doing so, but implementing a system of doing so. Make sure to plan out long-term appreciation strategies and make sure every team member feels it. Being a leader requires you to find new ways to motivate your team to be more accountable for themselves and evolve/care more about their outcomes as a worker.
